Case study

Uniting a diverse Board and member base around the Principles.

The Global Blockchain Business Council created a program of activities around the Presidio Principles to create alignment among members, after approval from its Board of Directors.
The Opportunity
The Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) is the leading global industry association for the blockchain technology ecosystem with more than 250 institutional members, and 130 Ambassadors from more than 70 jurisdictions and disciplines.

GBBC is dedicated to furthering adoption of blockchain through engaging regulators, business leaders, and global changemakers on how to harness this ground-breaking technology to create more secure, equitable, and functional societies

The GBBC is governed by a global membership base and a Board of Directors that represents multinational companies focused on blockchain technology. The Presidio Principles presented a concrete way to align this diverse membership on a shared set of goals around user protection.
How we used the Presidio Principles:
In July 2020, the Global Blockchain Business Council held a board meeting to determine if the Presidio Principles could be used with our membership, dedicating a significant amount of time to discussing whether to sign on and how the Principles might be put into practice. We decided it made sense to demonstrate public support and decided on a program of activities.

Following signing on, we displayed that we were a signatory on our website and held an event with members to discuss and share strategies for implementing the Principles within and across their organizations. We will continue to host dialogues on an annual basis with the potential for long-term self-reporting and tracking of member progress.
